Stupid Muslims

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Dozens of Malaysian Muslims paraded Friday with the head of a cow, a sacred animal in Hinduism, in a dramatic protest against the proposed construction of a Hindu temple in their neighborhood.

The unusual protest by some 50 people in Shah Alam, the capital of Selangor state, raises new fears of racial tensions in this multiethnic Muslim-majority country where Hindus comprise about 7 percent of the 27 million population.

The demonstrators who marched from a nearby mosque after Friday prayers dumped the cow head outside the gates of the state government headquarters. Selangor adjoins Kuala Lumpur. - Taken from The Associated Press. Full story on http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5h5RWG2ScAdC9V7eo-B6-KfUL3QjgD9ABV6U81.

One word. Stupid. Two word very stupid. Three words go to hell.

I was really surprise on this incident. What is going on their mind when they demonstrated like a hoodlum, claiming they are muslim in Ramadhan months where all muslim are asked to do good things and pray more, fast, and make sure they resist from doing negative thing like this.

Even though we cannot classify this people as a muslim, but doing thing with the name of muslim make me feel ashamed of myself, my own religion, my own race, my own country. I hope that someone could arrest those 50 people, put them in jailed, and silently kill them one by one. I am being too dramatic here. Even though we did not have to kill them, just make them learn their lesson.

If i can ask for an apology then i would ask forgiveness from my hindu friends for this troublesome incident. If we can captured those 50 people, let us together torchure them with a happy smile on our face.

Paediatric Protocol

For medical student, who want to save their life during paediatric posting, during clinic, during bed side teaching, or just simply want to learn on the management of common diseases in Paediatric, well this is the thing that you need. It is called Paediatric protocol for Malaysian Hospital, 2nd edition.

I believe all medical student should have this protocol. It was very nice. I love it so much because it is simple and also small in size so you can carry around when you are wondering around the ward.

It is funny that medical student have their own small book for every posting to put it inside their labcoat. I also got this habit. It is good actually because if i bring a big book in front of a patient, it would inappropriate and make them scared a little bit because they thought that this doctor don't know anything until he need to bring a big book to refer. Most uneducated patient look at medical student as a doctor. they could not differentiate them.

So i guess when i'm doing medicine posting, i would bring Oxford handbook of clinical medicine around. When i am doing surgical posting, i would bring that short notes on surgery or there is one book consist of exam questions on surgery. If i am doing ONG posting, i would bring that book by Prof Kulentran Arumugam, approach to Obstetric for undergraduate. In paediatric, paediatric protocol. It was like every posting have their own mini book. hehe..

Anyway, this protocol is nice. it cost only RM15 original version. How to get it... well, i just went to Likas Hospital and ask from Dr.Terrence for it.

Haha.

Nice book.

The Lost Symbol

1. The lost symbol will be released in 19 days. I was excited to be one of the first one reading this book. However, looking to the price, i guess i cannnot. RM99 pre book at times for hard cover.. i need to wait for the paperback version of it. PDA version is much more cheaper but i hate reading electronic book. Not like i am old fashoned or something, i just don't like because it make my eyes tired compare to reading the paper version. Anticipate the lost symbol.

p/s: The Lost symbol is the sequence for Dan Brown latest book The Da Vinci Code.

Angel And Demons --> The Da Vinci Code --> The Lost Symbol.

The Da Vinci code sold 60.5 millions worldwide and translated into 44 languages. It was credited to be in the fourth rank in the list of 101 best book ever written.

2. Drinking beer... 6 strokes... This is the issues here in Malaysia. It was just a simple matter. Someone doing something wrong according to the religion, and then got punished, the person accept it. So what is the matter of all people trying to use this issue to potrait Islam negatively. I like this kind of punishment rather than looking to Muslim and Muslimah drinking beer publicly without shame or even without thinking of others who are trying hard to conserve and protect the holy islam.

If somehow, that women ask for mercy, i guess forgiveness is always there to be considered. However, she did not. What is wrong with all the people nowadays. it is like stealing and admit it and people are pushing to make the stealer not guilty. or like a murder who admit murder but being force to deny it. haha. funny.

3. I hate muslim drinking beer. In fact i hate all person who does. Why? Because when they got drunk, they look stupid, they disturb other, and nothing cool about that. For those who drank occasionally (for non-muslim) it is fine with me. No book or any fact say that you must drink until you collapse and get positive outcome.

4. Alcohol consumption is one of the important to ask during history taking in medicine. Until we cannot omit that question for all kind of diseases history. You got cancer, ask about alcohol intake. You got TB, ask about alcohol intake. You are infertile, ask about alcohol intake. You got stroke, ask about alcohol intake. Everything is related to alcohol. Almost every diseases are associated with alcohol and smoking. That is why i hate this two think. Looking at a person smoking disguist me. Are they cool? Not if you encounter them on the bed begging for forgiveness from god to spare their life.

5. Sexual education should include education on conception and contraception. It should include all the positive thing about sex and not only the negative thing. Education should not only bound to negativeness or it would cause unwanted disaster later. For example, if you teach your children regarding the negative thing about western people such as america, your child would end up being a suicide bomber. Same goes for sexual education. Why?

I've encounter some of unplanned adoloscent pregnancy. It was wrong even medically. Female should get pregnant within the age of 18-24 years old. If below 18 years old, a lot of antenatal complication can occur. What if this teen got pregnant? Most of them would considered this as a mistake, then there goes their babies inside the dustbin, in the ditch, in the river, ate by dog. Why this happen? Why they don't have mercy on those poor baby. The mistake is them. Not the baby.

This happen when you educate the young people only regarding the bad side of sexuality and conception. They always have a mind set that their unwanted baby would cause trouble and getting rid of them is the only solution.

I believed that good education is not wrong. We are not encouraging them but we want no consequences from every aspect of their action.

6. Fasting month is supposed to be the month where you can be empathy to those poor who did not have anything to eat. However, i believe that in Malaysia, people ate more during Ramadhan. There are so many food available almost everywhere. No other month we can get so much food like this. Before Ramadhan, use rm 2 for breakfast, rm4.5 for lunch and another rm5 for dinner. Average RM10 everyday. In Ramadhan, Mee goreng rm2, murtabak rm1.5. Ayam percik RM5, air tebu botol kecil rm1.5, kuih karipap rm1... sahur would be RM3.5-4.5. Thus, expenses during Ramadhan exceed normal daily expense.

7. Funny. This world is so funny.

Thalassemia Situation

It's critical.

Ever since i went to Medical school here in sabah, the only expertise i automatically get is in Thalassemia. I have met a lot of Thalassemia cases and i have seen the consequences of it.

Lot of people are talking about preventing this inherited diseases. Everywhere we can see the campaign of preventing Thalassemia by doing screening and everything.

However, not so many people are looking into those person who already has the diseases. Those who cannot prevent it. Those who suffer because of the consequences done by their ignorance parent.

My point is, we should look more into this people. How to manage them, how to increase their quality of life. It was like people start to talk about preventing thalassemia and forget those who had it as they are like dying with no hope of a normal life.

It is a wrong idea to classified them as terminal. They don't. We can manage and make their life much better and as normal as others. We have plenty of money to buy medication for them, but we don't have enough blood i guess.

So blood is the most important thing to be focus regarding this problem. We need people to donate their blood for them. We need people to think and somehow be in their shoes for once and give those numerous blood in your body.

Common reason for people to avoid blood donation:

1. Scared (don't know why they are scared compared to those who are dying without enough blood)
2. I have low blood volume. ( Then you are not human. God created us with enough blood to supply our body. Losing up to 300 mg will not harm us)
3. I cannot donate blood ( most of this people gave vague reason)
4. I'm menstruating ( It was the endometrium which shed off during menstruation, not a running blood like the real bleeding)
5. I'm afraid of putting up weight after i donate blood (common myth among people in our culture is that we will gain dramatic weight after we donate blood. We did not look on the fact that how many fast food and rice these people ate after, or even before they donate their blood)
6. i don't know where to donate my blood ( this is acceptable. Actually we can donate blood at the hospital. Just go there and tell the registration counter, they must refer you to the appropriate place. No need to wait for the campaign)
7. Don't bother/ ignorance ( just wait until you can see the clear picture of this situation which you may not see until the end of your life. So just pray that somehow you will).

I guess no one can stop thalassemia from spreading in Sabah. Lack of education and services to screen for thalassemia limit the control of the disease. I hope that someday, somehow, someone can provide cure for this problem. Which is impossible except the genetic engineering and genetic manipulation is possible.

p/s: I heard that there is blood substitute developed in the west. It is like a recombinant hemoglobin like substances produce by DNA engineering or from bovine or swine. Using this technology, we do not need people to donate blood anymore. We just make how many blood substitute that we can. It was a very good development.

This products are being use by south africa currently. People say that it was a human trial. But i try to search for the info and it was clearly that it was used there for human. Maybe within this few years we can see the products being commercialize through out the world.

District 9

it has been a while.

My movie day it not really interesting nowadays, not only because i don't have much time to watch as i spend most of my time in the hospital or sleeping, but it also contribute by the fact that most movies today are sucks.

Let us start from Transformer 2. It was a big movie. Yes, i could not deny that it was one of the best movie ever in term of action, graphic, all the boom inside it make my adrenal gland stimulated. But it lacks of something. I could not describe that thing but when i watched transformer for the second time, i did not have that feeling that i had when i watch the first movie a year ago. Transformer 1 is unbeatable. I like transformer 2 but too much action, and too little story.

Then i watch harry potter. I am not a fan of it. But i'm watching it with a fan of Harry potter. Then i gett so boring.... and not only me, that big fan of harry potter also said that the movie is boring. Compare to other harry potter movies. So, my worse movie day again.

With some pressure, i force myself to go and watch GI Joe last week. From the beginning i felt that GI Joe is just a movie with unlogical thing however, compare to transformer, i did not like the unlogical thing in GI Joe. It was boring. and the story line is too plain. I know they will win, a twist of the bad guys becoming a president is too predictable. And the basic history if the organization is not so well presented. So one worse movie again.

Then i don't have anymore anticipated movie to watch. I walk around the cinema, then i realize some poster showing "No Human allowed!" movie titled District 9. Plain sound. Could be boring.

As i watch that movie, i don't have intention to watch it but since there is no other thing to watch, i found out that the beginning of the movie is kind of Cloverfield-like. But still, it look like a documentary. I began to hope that the documentary part is only a small portion of the movie. I want to see good image in it. Guess what, i am not dissapointed by this one.

District 9 is a movie so different from other movie, and the story is unpredictable. I could not predict the end, the climax.. it have that element of surprise. I really like it.

In the end, i learn my lesson, a good movie, does not really have to be promoted so fiercefully as transformer, harry potter, gi joe and everything. One it needs is a fresh new idea and story.

For those who has not watch this movie, try and watch it. I like the idea of the movie. Sometime it is funny. Sometimes there is a lesson that we can learn from it.

Three Cups of Tea

A title of a book. Three Cups of Tea.

It is a very simple book to read. The story is about how a man give up his normal life as a medical nurse and sold everything he had just to build a school in Pakistan. It was really inspiring. How can a human like that exist in this world. Just to provide education to a rural area in Pakistan, he would leave his wife and children, live in a car, live with no money, just to give others education.

Through out the book, i found that not only him exist, there are others, teachers in pakistan, afghanistan and other middle east country who only get 1 dollar salary for a month to teach local children. And most of them did not get any salary at all. However, they still teach because what they want to create is a better and peace world.

Lot of people nowadays did not do their job because of the benefit to others but mostly benefit to themselves. But we could not blame those people because people have their need. So salary and good income is a need to everyone on planet earth. However, the intention is what important in everything that we do.

As i speak with a specialist medical doctor during my elective posting, he described on how hard a doctor job is from 6 am until 10 pm everyday and even sometimes 48 hours non stop. And how little doctor in Malaysia received every months. He asked students to give up medicine.

However, he mentioned the point of his story. The point is that becoming a d0ctor is not about the salary. it is about intention to serve others.

A professor once told us that we can expect and hope for a good income when becoming a doctor but stressed to us that we must have that intention to treat people.

So intention is the most important thing in our work. What is our intention everyday when we start our day?

No matter how difficult the job is, if we have the right intention, we would do it. Our life is for others to benefit.

Those times...

I do not know what to say but i know that i am so busy nowadays in my final year in medical school. Even if i am not, i always think about it. There is no more thing such as free time because when i was free, i would become a little afraid. Afraid that why i am so free... I need to fill my time with everything that i need to know for the coming exam and my future career.

It is true that after 2012, hospital in Malaysia would be too crowded with house officer. Trainee doctor. So i heard that they are limiting the number of intake of new graduate from medical school. It is a bad news but luckily i am graduating next year so i hope i still have a place to do my housemenship.

Where should i go?

it was a clear set in my mind to my housemenship in Kota Kinabalu. However, i am now still revising and thinking of it. Sarawak is in my consideration right now but i still did not have the right point to go there. But i am sure that Sabah and sarawak is the place where i want to work later.

Sometimes i think too much until i cannot go to sleep. It is funny because i am still studying and this matter should not be discussed this early but time seems to flow very fast nowadays. maybe when i close my eyes i would already holding a case note and a hundreds order behind me as a house officer. So fast until we cannot appreciate most of our time today.

I miss the time where i went to class at 8.00 am in the morning and went back to my hostel at 4.00 pm in the evening and doing some simple assigment in the weekend. The time when me and my roomate always have plenty of time to do crazy stuff.

Now such time is gone. Everyday i went to the hospital and i would always expect that i will reach my hostel at 5-6 pm and this is consider early. And went back with no more atp to spare to do crazy stuff. Those energy need to be conserved to read hundred of pages before i can go to sleep.

Everyday i spent more than 5 hours of standing. standing during clerking, standing during bed side. clinical years are quite tiring.

However, it was interesting. I guess. But still i miss my pre-clinical years. haha.

What is done is done. What is gone is gone. Looking forward to the future. I should be smiling standing.
